Permanent Jewelry FAQ

What is permanent jewelry?

Permanent jewelry is a fine chain bracelet, anklet, or necklace that's custom fit to your body and welded closed on the spot instead of using a clasp. You wear it continuously, no taking it off, no losing it. At Gabriela Ceballos New York, each piece can be finished with a charm from our collection.

How is permanent jewelry applied? Does it hurt?

A jeweler sizes the chain to you, then uses a small, quick pulse-arc weld to close the final link. The weld takes about a second, never touches your skin, and is completely painless. The whole appointment takes around 15 minutes.

How long does permanent jewelry last?

Permanent jewelry lasts for years with normal wear, and many people keep theirs on indefinitely. The chain is solid metal, so it holds up to showers, workouts, and daily life. If a link ever breaks, we can re-weld it.

Can you take permanent jewelry off?

Yes. Despite the name, permanent jewelry comes off easily by snipping the welded link with scissors at the jump ring. You can save the chain and have it re-welded later.

Can you get an MRI or go through airport security with permanent jewelry?

For MRIs, most facilities ask you to remove all metal, so you would snip the chain at the weld point beforehand and have it re-welded after. Fine chains typically do not set off TSA metal detectors, so flying is not an issue.

Can I shower, swim, and work out with it?

Yes. Our chains handle water, sweat, and daily wear.

What are the downsides of permanent jewelry?

The main considerations are that you'll need to snip it for MRIs or certain surgeries, some workplaces restrict jewelry, and very delicate chains can snag. We make sure our chains are comfortable for everyday wear.

What materials do you use?

Our permanent jewelry chains and charms come in 18k gold plated and silver plated finishes. Every piece is welded on site and finished to your exact fit.

Is permanent jewelry hypoallergenic?

Our delicate 18k gold plated and silver plated chains are designed for comfortable all-day, everyday wear.

Is permanent jewelry waterproof?

Everyday moments like showering won't hurt your chain, so you can truly wear it 24/7. To keep the plating on your delicate gold chain necklace or bracelet looking its best, we recommend avoiding chemicals, chlorine, and patting it dry after showers.
